I played a set of these reeds for a couple of weeks and found that they produced a nice rich sound, however they were a bit loud for my solo setup. They were steady and locked in well. The two bridle design allows for very fine adjustment of the strength and there’s lots of room on the tuning screw to adjust where they tune on the pin. Overall a good set of drone reeds.

I originally heard about the Soundmax Synthetic Drone Reed when Paul McComish was playing alongside me at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2024. At that stage the reeds we still being designed.
Fast forward to 2026 and I have been playing the Soundmax Reeds for some time.
The reeds are excellent, easy to setup (not quite plug and play).
They create a strong, stable and reliable sound.
